(The 13'' model with Touchbar and four Thunderbolt ports.) With scaling, I found the performance to be entirely unacceptable, so I ditched the scaling. I use a pair of 27'' 4K monitors attached to a late 2016 MacBook Pro. We must seemingly accept the perf degradation that comes with scaling, or live with squinting at our monitors. Scaling in Windows seems to be done in a different way, not rendering everything at twice the resolution yet keeping text sharp. Same goes for my built-in retina display on the Macbook itself – "Looks like 1680 x 1050" chosen, screenshot resolution is twice this in both axis. In my case this turns out to be 6016 x 3384, which admittedly is a huge resolution for a not-new integrated graphics chip. Right click the file and chose "Get info", the "Dimensions" under "More info" will be double your chosen "Looks like" resolution, that's the case for me at least. A picture of the whole screen will be captured for every screen used on your device. Go to your desktop and press ⌘ + shift + 3. The reason for this, as far as I can figure tell, is that macOS renders everything at 2x resolution, then scales it down. Performance when moving windows around, resizing them etc. On my early 2015 13" MBP I'm using the "Looks like 3008 x 1692" setting on a 27" 3840 x 2160 monitor. I would like to take advantage of the full 4K resolution spacing wise but I find some elements really tiny such as contextual menus and software UI.Īlso, the reason for this is the 3360x1890 default resolution is giving me lag issues when using some software and can't properly work.īeen playing around and the only thing I see I can change is font size dock size or things like that which affects only to finder or desktop elements but not Photoshop i.e. Setting both to 2160p, I find I can change the scale to 150% but on macOS (10.15.2) there is just one option for 4K (more space) on the very right. I have upgraded to a 4K monitor looking to improve my workflow.
